Hello! I’m Dr. Carol Clark. I began my journey towards becoming a sex therapist and author when I first became a mental health counselor. I knew I wanted to specialize in something so I could have a marketing niche doing work I really enjoyed and I did not want to continue college to become a psychologist.

When I took a Human Sexuality course in Miami to become licensed, I was hooked. I completed a certification program in Sex Therapy and from there specialized in both Transgender Care and Addictions Therapy. Eventually I focused on Sex Addiction Therapy, but I realized that many of my clients’ issues went beyond their sexual behavior. The real problem was how they engaged in stimulating behavior to escape the pain of childhood trauma. (See Intimacy and Connection in Recovery and feel free to pass it on.)

I began teaching at a local university and then created my own Sex Therapy Training Institute (STTI) and Addiction Therapy Training Institute (ATTI). Later came the International Transgender Certification Association (ITCA) and finally the International Institute of Clinical Sexology (IICS). We have additional individual Certification Programs in Hypnotherapy and Sexuality, Sexuality and Disabilities, Kink Conscious Therapy, and Sex Offender Therapy.

As I evolved in my personal and professional life, I began writing down my conceptualization of addiction and have the two books noted above. Addict America is on audiobook and has been translated into Spanish: America Adicta: La Conexion Perdida.

My life has been incredibly interesting, exciting, and challenging and I have been blessed to work with incredibly diverse student and client populations.
